v1.11.2 and v1.10.3 (Released 9 March 2024)
These are essentially the same as the v1.11.1 and v1.10.3 public betas, which have been available since 4 February 2024.
The primary version is v1.11.2, which is based on the latest version of the JUCE framework, and includes changes to how
multi-threading is handled, in order to provide better performance on newer computers. Both the Mac and Windows downloads
include a secondary installer to "downgrade" the Unify app and plug-ins to v1.10.3, which is based on the previous JUCE
version and the older multi-threading approach. This is provided mainly for the benefit of users with older Macs, but this
is basically the end of the line for Unify v1.10.x, and we strongly advise that users upgrade to newer hardware if they
intend to continue using Unify.
Version differences
- There are no significant feature differences between Unify v1.11.2 and v1.10.3.
- Unify v1.11.2 for Macintosh requires at least MacOS 10.13 (High Sierra), but is definitely recommended for all Macs
with Apple Silicon. It has been tested up to the latest MacOS 14 (Sonoma).
- Unify v1.10.3 for Macintosh will work on MacOS as far back as 10.9 (Mavericks), and may work better on older Macs
with Intel CPUs. However, for Macs running MacOS 10.13 or later, we recommend that you install v1.11.2 first, and
downgrade to v1.10.3 only if performance seems unacceptable.
- Unify v1.11.2 for Windows has been tested on Windows 10 and 11. It may work on Windows 7 and 8 also, but we advise
users with older PCs to install v1.11.2 first, and downgrade to v1.10.3 only if performance seems unacceptable.
No AAX plug-in for Windows
- We do not yet have a new signing certificate for AAX plug-ins on Windows. They are very expensive, so we need to find
out how many users are affected by this limitation.
- Users on MacOS should be able to use the AAX version of Unify in any version of Pro Tools.
Settings view
- The special "Max Thread Priority" checkbox (added at v1.9) no longer appears on the Settings page in v1.11.2 for Mac, as it's no longer needed.
- In "GUI" section, new "Start with Footer" menu allows you to specify what appears by default in the footer area of the GUI
each time Unify starts up. Choices are "Not shown", "MIDI Keyboard", "Macro Knobs" and "Transport".
- In "Patch Browser" section, new "Start with favorites (heart) selected" checkbox allows you to specify that you would like
Unify to come up showing only favorite patches.
Transport
- New "MIDI / n Bars" trigger modes in Transport allow transport to continue running for some number of measures after an
"all keys up" condition, before automatically stopping.
ComboBox
- Quick plug-in selector is now available in ComboBox.
- Right-click (or Ctrl + click on Mac) now opens quick selector instead of traditional pop-up menu.
- Hold down ALT (Option on Mac) and right-click to open traditional selector menu instead.
- Default positions of MIDI and Audio Input nodes have been swapped, to match the layout of connection points.
- Audio Input is now on the left, MIDI Input is now on the right.
PolyBox
- You can now set the Pool Size as low as 1, to use PolyBox as a simple polyphony-limiter effect.
(Use the default "Mono/EP" mode, and control polyphony using the "Voices Per Ch" selector.)
Guru Sampler
- SFZ files may now directly reference .wv files (.wav files compressed using
Wavpack).
Bug fixes
- Unify should no longer become unresponsive if up/down arrow keys are held down.
- Fixed bug where library list did not update correctly after rebuilding patch database.
- For instrument plug-ins which do not provide the current preset-name, INST layer titles (which have not yet been set explicitly by the user) will be cleared, rather than being left with an old/invalid preset name.
- Improve handling of OSC paths for embedded Unify instances:
- inst/X/unify/macro/Y now works correctly (previously, the layer-number Y was ignored).
- inst/X/unify/inst/Y/mute and inst/X/unify/inst/Y/solo now work as expected.
- Fixed bug in Omega Delay, where BPM-synced delay times could be incorrect during offline rendering.
- Fixed a bug in Flex EQ which caused EQ parameters to recall incorrectly from patches, unless/until one of the plug-in's GUI controls is adjusted.
- Fixed rare crash bug in Silky Chorus and a few other built-in FX plug-ins.
- Unify should no longer become unresponsive if up/down arrow keys are held down.
- Fixed bug where library list did not update correctly after rebuilding patch database.
- Fixed a bug which caused certain patches to crash Ableton Live 11 when exporting audio.
- Fix bug where CC#2 events could disable subsequent CC events.
- Fix Mac-specific bug where processing could "hang" when closing GUI window.
- Fix bug where Accessibility line didn't appear in Settings in plug-in versions of Unify.
- Pop-up MIDI plug-in selector now displays ALL plug-ins (used to show audio FX only).
- MIDI polyphonic aftertouch should now be handled correctly.
Other changes
- Response to MIDI all-notes-off message has been corrected, so sounding notes are released, without fully cutting off all sound. This should yield a better experience in certain DAWs, especially Ableton Live.
- Simplify post-install prompts to avoid confusing new users.
- In plug-in versions of Unify, current library selection, favorites button state, and footer mode are persisted when closing/reopening the Unify GUI window.
