mda Transient

The “mda” plug-ins are legacy, open-source plug-ins developed by Paul Kellett and colleagues. See About the MDA plug-ins and http://mda.smartelectronix.com/.

The mda Transient effect is a simple “transient processor”, used to adjust timing characteristics of transients (sudden changes) in a music signal.

This effect is included in the legacy mda source-code package, but not documented anywhere, so it may be that it was abandoned by the developers. We have included it with Unify for the sake of completeness.

Like all the mda plug-ins, mda Transient does not have its own custom GUI, so Unify presents it using a “generic” GUI consisting of a stack of horizontal sliders, one for each of the plug-in's parameters. Note each of these parameters is also available for automation.

Parameters

  • Attack: amount by which transient attack is emphasized, percentage -100% to +100%, default 0.
  • Release: amount by which transient release is emphasized, percentage -100% to +100%, default 0.
  • Output: output level, -20 dB to +20 dB, default 0 dB.
  • Filter: amount of filtering (“damping”), dimensionless, -10 to +10, default 0.
  • Att Hold: amount by which transient attack is extended, percentage 0 to 100%, default 35%.
  • Rel Hold: amount by which transient release is extended, percentage 0 to 100%, default 35%.
